The Lightning Round

It is much harder to keep up with this blog than I thought. Not only do I have to contend with finding enough time to post updates, but I have hit writers blaock after 3 posts. How pitiful is that? You would think that with all that is going on in the world I could find something to add my two cents to.

I started this blog to bring my perspective to things, but with the 24 news cycle, everything has already been said by the time I get around to commenting. That is not to say that I don't have original thoughts, but it is kinda the million monkeys ideas, by blathering 24 hours a day on TV most angles on a particular story have been espoused. So, anything that I add does not sound original.

But, I will not let the lack of originality stop me. I will give you my quick take on several recent events. Now ladies and gentlement, let's play the lightning round..

Hurricane Dennis: Bad, but could have been worse. Too bad Texas didn't get any rain from it. Let's keep our eye on Emily.

Space Shuttle: I hope it is fixed. I'm not too critical of NASA, I'm sure they are doing all they can to make it as safe as possible. Hey, rocketing your butt into space is dangerous business. If someone can die on a space simulation ride at Disney World, the real thing has to be pretty risky.

William Rehnquist: I don't blame him for hanging on if he still feels up to the job, but he sounds pretty sick to me. I know it is a lifetime appointment; I don't know about you but, I don't want to die while I'm still working. He out to retire and go enjoy himself.

Carl Rove: If he broke the law, fire him. If not, Bush should stick by him and tell the dems to shut up and sit down. I know the dems would like to stick it to Rove the architect because he beat them twice, but if he didn't do anything wrong, stop the petty fight.

SCOTUS Nominee: Bush should appoint anyone he damn well pleases. The Dems have no power to stop him. They can complain all they want but it only takes 51 votes to confirm his choice and the GOP has more than enough. Hmmm, that filibuster agreement doesn't seem so smart now does it Mr. Reed?

London Needs Batman

I turn on the radio today and hear the news of the bombings in London. I am not surprised at the news, like the Londoners, I was expecting something like this. It is a bad thing which could have been worse.

I am at a loss as to what the free world can do to stop these attacks. If we could sit down with the Al Quida leadership, I am sure they would be hard pressed to tell us what their grievances are and what it would take in the way of concessions to get them to stop. In the end, they want us all dead and they want to rule the world as they see fit. That being the situation, we must make them know that the cost to them is too high to continue.

I wonder, what would a nuclear attack on a mideast town of say 300,000 population would do to make them stop and think? No notice, no warnings, just a swift, devasting response by the Brits to those who support and harbor such terrorists.

Such reactions are rash and not practical; however, it is satisfying to ponder. Our practical response is continued dogged pursuit of the actors and their supporters. Diligent hunting will, over time, drain them of their resolve. Eventually the will see that their attacks are not changing us, only strengthening our resolve.

Although it may seem trite, the attitude espoused by Batman in the recent film Batman Begins seems fitting.

Bruce Wayne: "I seek the means... to fight injustice. To turn fear... against those who prey on the fearful. "

Thomas Wayne: You know why they attacked you, don't you? They were afraid of you.
Bruce Wayne - age 8: Afraid of me?
Thomas Wayne: Yeah, all creatures feel fear.
Bruce Wayne - age 8: Even the scary ones?
Thomas Wayne: Specially the scary ones.

Pat Green - Texas Country

A mini album review........

I've stumbled upon the greatness that is Pat Green.

I listened to his album Lucky Ones --- my thoughts...

Pat Green is everything that is good about Texas country music these days. Lucky Ones is modern but does not stray too far from traditional country roots. He focuses on having a good time and telling a story without taking himself too seriously. I imagine his concerts are raucus with cheering crowds and flowing Shiner Bock.

The best track: College - I chose this track becuase it rings true. If you've been there, you understand.

Grab a copy online - legally of course - and sit back and enjoy!

OK, so this is my first blog entry.

I don't know why I am doing this. Just thought I'd try it out.

The first entry -- a quote

"Coincidences are the scars of fate." -- Julian Carax

This is a quote from a book I just read called Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruis Zafon.

Great book with a good ending. I would recommend it.
