Immigration Conundrum

OK, so we have millions of illegal aliens in this country and more coming everyday. What do we do about it? After listening to countless opinions on the subject, I have weighed the possible solutions and have come to my on conclusion for a solution.

First let's talk terms. They are ILLEGAL aliens, not undocumented workers. Any attempt to minimize their law breaking is a thinly veiled attempt to discount their behavior. However, I must admit that I do not blame them totally for trying to seek a better life, but there are consequences, or should be, to breaking the laws of a country.

Ok, so there are 12 to 20 million illegals here now. What do we do? There needs to be a two pronged approach. First we must cut off the flow of new entrants to the country. This should be handled my ramped up border patrol and homeland security efforts. Walls and fences should be erected ASAP in populated areas and open spaces should be patrolled electronically. Any new entrants caught coming over, should be returned ASAP.

All current illegals living in the USA should be given 60 days to report to a federal office to receive a tamper proof biometric ID card. They should give a current address, and a listing of all relatives with whom they live. They should also list any children they have including those who have been born in the USA. All illegals, including children should be receive an ID card.

These workers will be called temporary foreign nationals. The temporary work ID will let them apply for a work permit which will also be a biometric card. Employers should require the work permit card for employment and report wages paid monthly to the government.

Temporary work permits will be valid for 3 years. After 3 years, the workers must reapply for a new permit.

Any employer who employs an illegal immigrant with our an ID card and work permit card will be subject to severe financial penalties and possible prison time for repeat offenses.

Workers will have income tax withheld from payroll and social security taxes. They will not be eligible to receive social security benefits unless they eventually become citizens. They will be subject to minimum wage laws and be allowed to join labor unions. They must be provided with employer paid medical insurance regardless of whether the employer pays for such insurance for other employees.

Temporary foreign nationals (TFN) will be eligible to apply for citizenship after 10 years of residing in the US. Any criminal convictions will immediately revoked the ID and work permits and the Temporary foreign national will be deported and denied future entry.

Citizenship will be granted only to those TFNs who have worked for 10 years, obeyed our laws, paid taxes, learned proficient English, paid a $2,000 fine, and passed a citizenship test.
